Abstract
346,073. Brake shoes acting on drums. PAYNE, M., 50, Hook Road, Surbiton, Surrey, and CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO. Ltd., Titanic Works, Lincoln. Jan. 31, 1930, No. 3352. [Class 103 (i).] In an internal expanding-brake for road vehicles of the kind in which the brake shoes 3 and brake-operating cam 3a or equivalent element are carried by a cover-plate 4 fixed to a non-rotatable axle 9 upon which the wheel and brake drum 1 are journalled, the inner ends of the pivotal support 7 for the shoes and the spindle 8 of the operating-cam are supported by an additional plate 5, directly secured to the axle 9 so as to relieve the plate 4 from bending stresses, the sheet-metal plates 4, 5 being dish-shaped and secured together at their inner edges 6. The cam-operating lever 11 is arranged between the plates 4, 5 and is connected to a Bowden cable 12, the sheath 14 of which is anchored to the plate 4.
