Abstract

284,465. Pleasant, W. Jan. 29, 1927. Band or coil; shoes acting on drums. - The brake drum and drum closing disc or anchoring plate on the front wheel of a motor cycle are coned to facilitate their application to forks of the kind in which the axle e, Fig. 1, is carried by trailing links l pivoted to the ends of the forks j and controlled by rods m, the upper ends of which are connected to the fork by springs. The brake drum a<1>, Fig. 2, is dished at a<3> to enable it to fit on the end of the hub b and is provided with a spoke flange a<2> lying in the plane of the original spoke flange removed from the end of the hub. The anchoring disc c is also coned at c' and is free to oscillate on a bush d secured to the axle e; it is provided with an arm i connected to the fork by a link j<1>. An expanding band a' is secured at one end to an adjustable pin f and is operated at the other end by a cam or the like on a spindle h<1> controlled by a lever h<2> and Bowden mechanism k, k<2>. The axle e may be arranged at the front end of the links l or at the angle of bell-crank-levers replacing the links.
