Saddles. - A readily attachable and detachable top is provided with a turned-down rear end carrying one or more forwardly-extending members or lugs 17, which may be secured to the cantle-plate 16, and are adapted to be detachably connected to theback-plate 2 of the saddle or to the underframeby bolts 20 or other means, the lugs 17 having slots or holes for the passage of the bolts. The saddle may be of the type described in Specification 240,638, and the bolts 20 may also secure the main load-carrying springs 21 to the backplate 2. The peak portion of the saddle top is provided with an extension or strap, which is folded down and bent back under the forward part of the saddle underframe and detachably secured thereto by a bolt &c. The lugs 17 may be replaced by a forwardly-extending flange on the cantle-plate, this flange being formed with spaced slots to engage the bolts 20.
