Abstract
241,360. Benjamin, A. Sept. 19, 1924. Spray carburettors. - A fan driven by the engine supplies at will hot or cold air to an intake of the engine, e.g. to the carburettor or to the induction pipe. As shown in Fig. 1, the fan 15 is driven bv a belt 18 from the radiator fan shaft 11 and delivers air to a pipe 20 leading to the air intake 21 of the carburettor 12. The pipe 20 is fitted with a relief valve 23 and a stop cock 24, and is provided with a branch pipe 27 which lies along or is wound around the exhaust pipe 14. The pipe 27 is provided with a threeway valve 28 and communicates by pipes 29, 30 with the carburettor air intake and with the induction pipe 13. The fan may be driven from a pulley on the engine crank shaft, or may be mounted directly on the radiator fan shaft, and either the pipe 29 or the pipe 30 may be omitted. In a modification, the fan is driven by an electric motor controlled by a switch having a number of different settings, so that the fan may be driven at a speed corresponding to the speed of the engine.
