Selective perforating machines.-In an electrically-actuated keyboard machine for punching statistical-cards each of one group of keys causes the actuation of two punches predetermined by the key operated, and each of another group causes the actuation of one punch. The punches may be selected from the keyboard of an ordinary typewriter during the actuation of the latter. The card 14 is fed step by step between a punchcarrying plate and a die-plate beneath a column of tweive punches, and punching is effected when the die-plate is raised by selected punches being blocked by setting-mechanism actuated by twelve bell-cranks 30. Each of the latter is controlled by a solenoid 35. Contacts on the numeral keys 1-12 are in series with the solenoids of punches 1-12, Fig. 5, respectively and are shunted by contacts on letter keys A-M. Depression of either the numeral key 1 or the letter key C, for example, causes actuation of punch 1. For the letters N-Z the punches are selected two at a time. As shown in Fig. 4, depression of the letter key P is equivalent to the depression of numeral keys 1 and 12, causing actuation of the punches 1 and 12.
