Abstract

Activated charcoal which has been used in the purification of fermentation carbon dioxide is revivified by passing steam at a temperature of approximately 100 DEG C. through the bed by means of a hot gas, e.g. air, nitrogen or carbon dioxide at a temperature of 50 to 150 DEG C. The removal of absorbed impurities during the first part of the operation is hastened by circulating steam through pipes in contact with the charcoal, the charcoal being finally cooled by circulating cold water through the pipes. The process may be carried out by means of the apparatus described in Specification 240,127. Specifications 218,974, 227,405, and 229,236 also are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the process as applicable to the revivification of absorbent materials in general. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
