Abstract
239,087. Arnot, J. M. Dec. 1, 1924. Rollers or cylinders, hollow.- In steam-heated drying cylinders, condensed water is removed by a scoop d which may be held stationary or rotated when the cylinder rotates at a high speed, and rotated when the cylinder rotates at a low speed. The scoop d is in the form of a scroll, the inner edge d' of which leads to a water outlet pipe i, and the scroll may be provided with a balance weight to retain it in a position other than the lowest in the cylinder. A pointer on a shaft i attached to the scroll indicates the position of the scroll inside the cylinder. A driving-pulley k may be locked to the machine frame when it is required to keep the scoop stationary, or weights d<4> may be secured to the rear edge of the scoop. Flanges d<2> prevent the escape of water over the ends. Steam enters through a pipe g or through the shaft j.
