Abstract
222,249. Braidwood, W., and Hartley, A. July 18, 1923. Washing and peeling potatoes.-In a machine for washing and peeling potatoes, of the kind in which the potatoes are contained between concentric abrading cylinders A, B, mounted in a water container C, the outer drum A is driven through gearing a<7>, a<8> from chain gearing a<10>, a<11>, a<12> mounted in a chamber D, Fig. 3, which is secured to the casing C and slotted at d to receive a half-bearing d' and a removable slide d<2>, Fig. 7, having at its lower end a halfbearing d<3> which co-operates with the part d<1> to form a bearing for the shaft a<9>. The journal pins a<2>, a<3> of the drum A rest in open bearings a<4>, a<5> formed at the bottom of vertical channels a<5> so as to permit removal of the drum. The inner cylinder B is shown formed in one piece with the outer drum but it may be separate and arranged to remain stationary or rotate at a different speed from or in the opposite direction tn the drum A. The machine may be hand operated, as shown, or power driven.
