Peeling potatoes.-In a potato-peeling machine having stationary cylindrical vertical abrasive walls a<1> and a rotating abrasive bottom, the bottom plate is secured to a bossed plate s carried on a short shaft p which is supported in bearings o, z and is rotated by a bevel-wheel 7 which occupies the space between the bearings c. z. The bottom member n of the receptacle carries both the bearings o, z, the former being integral with it and the latter integral if desired. A ball race y is provided in a recess in the faces of the plate s and member n. A second ball race may be placed between the wheel 7 and the bearing z. Bearings 4 support the driving-shaft 3 which is provided with fast and loose pulleys 5. Water is supplied through perforated pipes j, 9 and a drain hole x is provided in the member n.
