Abstract
243,603. Robinson, H. April 20, 1925. Peeling vegetables. - In a vegetable-peeling machine of the type wherein the vegetables rest upon an abrading and agitating member positioned at the bottom of a container, the agitating member or disc is supported on a shaft 4 which passes through the bottom of the container and the driving-means are enclosed in a housing which is vertically adjustable. In Fig. 2 the bottom of the container 2 comprises a pan 1 having a central bearing 5 for the shaft 4 and a depending flange 10 which is slidably engaged by the housing 8, the securing bolts screwing into holes 15<a> in the flange 10 and through slotted holes in the housing 8, whereby the vertical adjustment is effected. The housing 8 is provided with a bottom bearing 7 for the shaft 4 and the downward thrust is taken by a ball race the upper and lower plates 27, 28 of which are pegged to the bevel wheel 16 and the housing 8 respectively. The bevel wheel shaft 18 is journaled in a bearing 12 secured to the housing 8 by bolts 14 which pass through holes in the flange 13 which are slotted for vertical adjustment of the bearing 12. The shaft 18 is also journaled in a swivel bearing 20 secured by adjusting screws 21 to a bracket 22 secured to the pan 1.
