Abstract

303,155. Debackere, A. Dec. 29, 1927, [Convention date]. Fish, treating.-In a machine for washing mussels, the mussels, contained in a vessel, are displaced and simultaneously acted upon by jets of liquid. As shown in Fig. 1, the mussels are contained in a rotary drum consisting of side plates 2 and cross bars 1, the drum having a solid shaft 3 journaled in a bearing 5 and a hollow shaft 4 journaled in a bearing 6. The bearings are supported on a frame 10 carrying a bracket 9 which supports a watersupply tube 8 passing axially into the drum. The tube 8 has slots which deliver jets inclined to the vertical plane passing through the axis of the drum, in the direction of rotation of the drum. The mussels tend to accumulate to this side of the said vertical plane, and the jets thus impinge on the thickest part of the heap of mussels, which are agitated by the rotation of the drum. The water passes out through the bars and is guided by a metal plate into a receptacle in which the foreign matter accumulates whilst the water escapes. A section of the bars 1 is hinged to the drum to provide a charging and discharging door.
