Abstract
238,550. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hull, A. W.). Aug. 15, 1924, [Convention date]. Thermionic amplifiers.-A thermionic valve 1 having a cathode 2, plate 3 and grids 4. 5. is arranged to produce a negative resistance in the cathode-plate circuit and so that high frequency oscillations are impressed on the grid 4 together with low frequency oscillations .so that the valvo 1 serves as a dual amplifier. The plate circuit 7. 8 is preferably tuned by simultaneously variable inductance and capacity and a detecting device directly or indirectly associated there with and with the grid circuit so as to impress the low frequency oscillations on the grid 4. The Figure shows the detector 9 coupled by a condenser 18 to the plate circuit 7, 8 and by a resistance 19 to the input of the valve 1. The crystal detector 9 is polarized and the grid 4 is preferably biased by potentiometer tapping 20 through a choke 23. Filters 24, 25 may be provided to exclude high frequency currents which are by-passed from the low frequency circuit by a condenser 17.
