Abstract

238,212. Junkers, H. Aug. 8, 1924, [Convention date]. Drilling.-In a jig for use in constructing individual aircraft wings and similar bodies the main spars are held in their correct relative positions by a series of frames adjustably mounted on a common base, the frames also carrying auxiliary members fitted with marking, boring or other gauges for the various connections to the spars. A base 1 has a fixed terminal frame 2 carrying a plate 5 through which the wing spars are passed, the other end of the spars being screwed into threaded holes 4 in a plate carried by a movable end frame 3. Detachable intermediate frames 6 with adjustable holders 10 for the main spars are put in from the side of the apparatus and secured together by bars 9. The members 10 carry holders 11 for auxiliary spars 12 parallel to the wing spars, and hinged templets 13 on these spars 12, when turned into contact with the wing spars determine the position of rivet holes for the attachment of cross bracing. A spar 14 has gauges 16 for determining the position of the hinges for elevating plates. When the main bracing is completed the auxiliary spars 12 and intermediate frames 6 are removed and the wing covering is applied.
