913,568. Setting-up printing formes in chases. BOEIJINGA, R. Oct. 14, 1960 [Oct. 17, 1959], No. 35347/60. Class 100 (3). An aligning device for fitting printing plates or blocks in a chase, comprises a sheet of transparent material 1, a guide-rod 4 to which the sheet is slidably and detachably connected, a guide-rod 7 on which one end of the rod 4 is slidable through a sleeve 6 carrying the rod 4 and slidable along the rod 7, two abutments 11, 12 slidable on the rod 7, a connecting-rod 13 between the abutments and on which the abutments are adjustable parallel to the guide-rod 7, and bolts for securing the abutments to the rods 7 and 13. The rod 7 is rigidly fixed to the printer's table. Rollers 14 are arranged on the sleeve 6 for supporting the sleeve on the printer's table whilst the T-section ruler 15 is rigidly fixed to the rod 7. The rod 4 and the ruler 15 have at their ends remote from the rod 7, rollers 16, 17, which run on the table. In use, printing chases A and B (or chase B and an original) are laid side-by-side. The face of the original is located in the plane of the printing surface of the printing forme. The chase B with or without forme elements, is disposed parallel with a ruler 15 by aligning the inside of the margins of the chase with the ruler. The distance between the abutments 11 and 12 is then adjusted to the distance between the margins of the chase B. The transparent sheet 1 is adjusted relatively to the original A by locating the sleeve 6 against the abutment 12. A few outlines are drawn on the sheet 1 from the original and the sleeve 6 is shifted to the abutment 11 so that the forme elements to be fitted in the chase B can be exactly fitted by having the contours thereof and the outlines on the transparent sheet in register. The forme elements can therefore be correctly arranged and fixed in chase B without the necessity of removing the sheet 1.
