Abstract

562,505. Printing-surfaces. WILLDAY, A. Aug. 6,1943, No. 13265/42. [Class 100 (ii)] Apparatus for registering formes in multicolour printing comprises a chase 1, provided with a hinged transparent cover 3 for taking an impression of the assembled printing-plates in known manner, and also with a transparent slide 6, which is adapted to receive locating- impressions from two or more of the plates, the impressions being then used as guides for completing the assembly of the series of plates. The slide 6 is of flexible glass, and has a grooved head 7 adapted to slide upon the side or end of the chase. Four plates F are first adjusted in position on a mounting-board 9 secured in the chase, and an impression is taken from the margins of their inked surfaces by pressing the slide upon them. By shifting the slide, other plates can then be positioned, in register with the impressions on the slide until two complete rows are formed. The slide is then placed at right angles to its first position and an impression of the completed rows is taken on it, with the aid of which other rows of plates are positioned until the complete assembly is formed. An impression is taken upon the transparent cover 3 for obtaining register of successive sets of plates.
