Abstract

Repairing and assembling. - A jig for use in the assembly of multi-spar aeroplane wings or similar structures consists of frames 3 which are arranged to clamp on to channel rails 2 and can be set mutually parallel or in any desired coplanar position by transverse members 6, and of separate templet frames of the type shown in Fig. 3. The spars or longitudinal members 9 of the structure to be assembled are secured by clamps 8 to the frames 3 and their ends are located by clamping-devices on the templets. The templets are provided with bearing members 19 in which are formed sockets for ball ends 12 of the spars 9 which are secured by divided retaining-plates 20; these hearing members may be adjustably mounted on the templets. An adjusting rod 14 is slidably mounted in a bore formed in each bearing member at right-angles to the plane of the templet. One end of the rod is brought into contact with the ball end 12 and the other projects clear of the templet to form a sighting-mark for comparison with similar adjusting rods provided at the other adjusting points of the templet. In Fig. 2 is shown a sighting- tube 15 pivotally mounted on one of the templet members ; when adjustment of the members 9 is correct the ends of the rods 14 all lie in the plane swept by the pivoted tube 15.
