Compound slabs.-Rubber flooring is formed by directly vulcanizing rubber sheets or tiles on to an intermediate layer of rigid material of such a nature that it can be securely fixed to the floor base. Suitable materials for the intermediate layer are asbestos cement, wood, stone, and metal. The contacting surfaces are, before vulcanizing, treated with a rubber composition, usually in the form of a solution, which will vulcanize in contact with and in the same time as the rubber sheets or tiles. A hard rubber or synthetic resin junction may be placed between the rubber and intermediate layer.
