454,323. Building - units. MAGNESIUM CEMENT LABORATORIES, Inc., 1428, Walnut Street, Philadelphia, U.S.A. -(Assignees of Kennedy, J. H.) Feb. 25,1935, No. 5984. Convention date, March 2, 1934. Drawings to Specification. [Class 87 (i)] A building unit comprises a body portion of fibrous material, such as bagasse, corn-husks, straw, wood fragments or sea plants, bonded by magnesium oxy-salt cement with denser surface layers of bonded aggregate of sufficient thickness to afford load-bearing strength. The surface layers may be a mixture of magnesimn oxy-salt, Portland or aluminous cement or gypsum with sand, asbestos, lithopone, or wood-flour and a waterproofer. The unit may be further coated with paint, oil; lacquer or wax. The edges of the units may be grooved to receive splines for holding them together. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a unit having a surface layer on one side only. The mixture for the surface layers may contain marble chips, or the layers may be synthetic resin, and linoleum may be attached thereto. The surface layers may be pressed on to the body portion before it has completely set. The units may be separated from the floor or ceiling by felt or rubber. The body portion may be formed by passing the mixture between parallel moving belts during which it sets. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 213,495, 291,647, [both in Class 87 (i)], and 383,473.
