Abstract

237,530. Wish, W. E. March 19, 1925. Vehicle lamps; lantern doors. - In a vehicle, lamp adapted to project light laterally from one or more auxiliary lamp bulbs i, as well as forwardly from the main lamp bulb c when required, the lamp casing is adapted to be turned about an axis passing longitudinally through it so as to enable the laterallydirected beam to be tilted up and down. The lamp casing may be turned by a handle g or by a lever and Bowden-wire apparatus. The rear end of the casing may be provided with a detachable screwed cap or an opaque hinged flap l so that light from the rear lamp bulb can be obtained when desired. The front of the casing may be provided with a hinged or screwed cap n carrying the lens or front glass, one of the electric lamps projecting beyond the joint between the cap and the casing. The main lamp bulb c or auxiliary lamp bulbs : i or both may be switched on by the movement of a single switch arm. In one form, the lamp casing is provided with a lateral panel or panels h of glass, celluloid, mica, &c. A reflecting cross partition i may be arranged between the lamp bulbs i and the inside of the casing opposite the panels may be formed as, or provided with, a reflector. In a modification, a lamp for motor cycles is provided with transparent panels on both sides and with a longitudinal reflecting partition in the plane of a single bulb i. In a second modification, a single panel extends across the bottom half of the casing.
