Abstract

310,057. Stumm, H. von. April 21, 1928, [Convention date]. Laghting, systems of; vehicle lamps.-A vehicle is fitted with an auxiliary lamp provided with a reflecting screen which is adapted to reflect part of the light downwardly and rearwardly on to the front of the vehicle, and part obliquely forwards to the rear side..The lamp may illuminate upwardly and downwardly on the near side, downwardly on the off-side, and on both sides on to the front of the vehicle. Switching means may be provided for controlling the auxiliary lamp independently, or simultaneously with the headlamp shutters. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, an electric lamp bulb a is mounted on a flat vertical wall c and is protected by a hemispherical glass globe d. The upper portion of the globe d is covered by a sheet-metal reflecting screen b provided with a triangular opening i, and an auxiliary reflector e may be arranged behind the bulb a opposite the casing i. In the form shown in Fig. 5, as applied to a motor bicycle, the bulb a is protected by a globe d and is covered by an incomplete substantially bell-shaped screen b. The bulb may be flattened adjacent to the screen. The lamp is secured to a handle-bar k by means of an arm f, and may throw part of the light downwardly on to a sidecar.
