Abstract
237,442. Kings Patent Agency, Ltd., (General Fireproofing Co.). Aug. 26, 1924. Moulding safes.-Fireproof safes are made by using a previously constructed hollow metal doorframe as the bottom of the mould in which the safe is cast. Corner-plates 1 with holes 2 are fitted on the foundation 3 and side supports 5 with a detachable part 5<a> and end supports 6 are placed thereon, Fig. 1. The previously-made door-frame A with the attached frame B, is placed on these supports, as shown in Fig. 14, so that the frame A constitutes the bottom of the mould for the safe. The outer walls 7 of the mould are fitted by engaging projecting angleirons 9 with pins 10 and angle-irons carried by the corner-pieces 8 which are held by pins 8<a> engaging the holes 2 in the corner-plates 1. The inner mould walls 11 are similarly held by corner-pieces 12. Reinforcement 15, such as expanded metal or wire mesh, is added and cement poured into the mould. Corner-plates 17 and side pieces 16, Fig. 13, are placed on top of the filled mould and a projection 18 on these pieces produces a recess H in the back of the walls of the concrete safe. Holes 16<a> in the pieces 16 permit extensions of the frames B to protrude. A back panel C is separately moulded and has a reinforcing plate C<38> with angle-irons C<37> which are welded or riveted to the frame B when the panel is fitted to the back of the safe, Fig. 20. The panel has also a projection H<1> fitting in the recess H in the safe walls. The projection H<1> is cemented in the recess H when the panel is applied to the safe. The door is completely encased in metal. Metal plates 61 are fitted to the sides of the safe and engage with the door frame A. A back plate 65 has flanges 64 sliding in folds 63 of the side plates, Fig. 22. Top and bottom plates are also fitted. The casting is oven-dried after moulding.
