Abstract

253,962. Bloomfield, H. Feb. 19, 1925. Moulding walls in situ.-Relates to shuttering for casting concrete walls of houses &c. in situ, the shutters being of the kind consisting; of rectangular frames adapted to be detachably secured tc one another and supporting sheets of metal or other suitable material. According to the invention, the sheets are so arranged upon the frames that at least one edge of each sheet overlaps its frame, while the parallel edge opposite, thereto lies within the limits of the frame. This facilitates the correct positioning of the shutters when placed together. Cavities are formed in the walls by using cores having removable filling- pieces, the outer shells of the cores being left permanently in position. Fig. 6 shows one of the shutters, which consists of an angle-iron framework 2 carrying a metal &c. sheet 1 arranged with overlapping edges b, c. The overlaps of adjacent shutters engage behind the projecting edges a, d of the frame. The shuttering is held together, as shown in Fig. 1, by nuts and bolts 3, wedges 4 being driven if necessary between the bolts and the flanges of the angle-irons. Gusset straps (not shown) hold the corners of the inner shutters in position. Cores for forming vertical cavities in the walls when the concrete is poured in between the shutters are shown in Fig. 2. Each core consists of a steel sheet facing 8 on a framework built up of wooden pieces 9, 9<a> -- 9<c>, and interconnected metal bars 9<d>. The parts of the framework are dislodged and removed when the casting of a tier of the wall has been completed, leaving the metal sheets 8 embedded. The cores can be suspended, during the casting, from transverse members consisting of two-part blocks 10 of wood or cement &c., Fig. 1; these surround the bolts 11 which space opposing pairs of shutters apart, and which are subsequently removed. Floor beams or joists may be supported in boxes 12, Fig. 8, cast into the inner walls, a horizontal metal bearing-plate 13 extending across the wall cavity being provided beneath each box and the space between the parts 12, 13 being filled up with concrete &c. Chimneys are constructed by casting earthenware pipes in the concrete breasts. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 143,694.
