Abstract
237,084. Duke, H. H. July 7, 1924. Compound blocks. - Rubber - faced paving- blocks for roads and like surfaces consist of a body of rubber and ground cork or sawdust vulcanized together under pressure, a layer of solid rubber keyed and vulcanized to the base and forming a wearing surface, and a thin coating of rubber vulcanized to the sides. The cork or sawdust is in excess of the rubber, approximately as three to one. A flexible reinforcement, such as canvas or wire netting, may be embodied in the block, and the underside of the block may be fluted to allow water to drain away. The adjoining faces of the blocks are coated with pitch or like substance and may be grooved.
