Abstract

The moist condition of concrete is prolonged, during the setting and hardening period, by sealing the surface with a film deposited from an aqueous dispersion of or containing rubber. If it is desired to remove the film eventually, the surface may be provided, prior to the deposit of the rubber film, with a layer of an inert granular material, e.g. barytes, clay, talc. The granular material may be applied as a separate coating or together with the rubber by applying a non-viscous dispersion of rubber heavily compounded with the granular material which sinks through the wet rubber layer before drying and forms the desired layer. A deposit of approximately 1 to 3 ozs. of rubber solids per square yard of concrete surface forms a satisfactory seal. Specification 291,784*, [Class 22], is referred to.
