Abstract

285,203. Horne, J. J., and Hendrick, C. F. Dec. 18, 1926. Foundations; surface markings.-A rubbersurfaced road, tennis court, floor, or the like, is formed of rubber sheets 1 united by a non-watersoluble adhesive to an intermediate waterproof layer 5 of rubber, asphalt, or tar supported on a concrete, tar-macadam, or like foundation 6, the edges of the sheets being pinned to wooden slats 8 which are inset in the intermediate layer and also pinned to anchoring blocks 9 of coke breeze or the like embedded in the foundation. The rubber sheets may be backed with canvas and their edges vulcanized together. The adhesive is preferably one composed of rubber mixed with bitumen by means of a volatile oil or spirit, and with or without a hardening agent such as gum or resin. In the case of a tennis court as illustrated, the lines 3 are marked by inlaid strips of white rubber and bevelled wooden border strips 10 are provided.
