Abstract

237,026. Woosnam, A., (Ederer, L.). April 25, 1924. Electric clocks.-The frame which carries the movement and rewinding magnet L of an electric clock is removably attached to a case by means of hooks and pins A<2>, A<3>, in such a way that placing the frame in position establishes contact between the terminals of the controlling and winding circuits. The terminals H<1>, H<2>, Fig. 6, establish the controlling circuit by way of the frame and one contact and terminals H<3>, H' establish the winding circuit with two co-operating pairs of contact members J', J<2> in the case. The pendulum is energized by the spring E<4> and going train E<5>, D<2>, D', C<12>, C<10>, escapement C' and lever C<6> which is clamped to the arbour of the escapement at C<5> and has a bent part projecting through an opening in the pendulum rod. The controlling circuit is established periodically by a wiper arm F<3> in the time-indicating arbour C" and an adjustable contact G carried by the screwed stud G<5>. The circuit through the electromagnet L then effects the rewinding by the reciprocating armature L<1> and ratchet and pawl E<2>, L<2>. The winding is stopped by contact of the studs E<3>, E<6> on the wheels E<2>, E<5>, which studs carry the ends of the spring. The controlling circuit N', N<3>, N<4>, X, Fig. 7, is closed by the contact F, G, and the relay N<2> is operated which closes the circuit N<14>, N<5>, N<6>, delayed-action relay N', N<26>, X. The switch N<12> is closed by the relay N<7> and the relay N<2> thereby short-circuited by the conductors N<16>, N<6>, N<14>. The operation of the relay N<2> actuates the two relays O<2>, P. The relay O<2> closes the circuit through the relay O<6> by which the heavy-duty switch Q and the bus bar circuits Q<2>, R<3>, are closed to feed secondary clocks and other indicating machines. The switch P' operated by the relay P closes the circuit through the relay U, Fig. 8, which in turn closes the circuit through the minute switch U<1>, U<3>, relay U<7>, U<8>, V<8>, X<15>. The two armed switch U<11> is thereby operated one circuit U<9>, U<5>, U<8>, U<8>, V<2>, X<15> short circuits the minute switch and maintains the relay U<7>, the second circuit U<12>, U<13>, L, U<14> actuates electromagnet L for rewinding. A condenser I is placed across the circuit at U<14>, U<13>, to prevent sparking. The delayed-action relay V closes the switch V<5> after an interval and short circuits the relay U<7> which allows the switches U<11> to reopen.
