Abstract

408,725. Electric clocks. BROWN, T. A., 53, Swinderby Road, Wembley, Middlesex. Nov. 11, 1932, No. 31948. [Class 139.] An electric clock in which the circuit of an electromagnetic device for re-energizing the pendulum is opened and closed by the pendulum, one contact being fixed to the frame and the second being pivoted on the pendulum and below the first contact, is characterized in that the second contact is the prong of a fork and the fixed contact is situated between the prongs of the fork. Pivoted to the pendulum 14 at 25 is a fork 22 with prongs 23, 24, of which the former prong contacts with fixed contact 18 on an arm 19 fixed by pin-and-slot connection 42, 43 to an arm 36. The other prong 24 coacts with insulation 21 only. Offsets 28, 29 on fork 22 and studs 26, 27 on the pendulum limit the rocking of the fork. The electromagnet 20, the circuit of which is completed by contacts 18, 23, is adjustably carried on the arm 36, which latter is itself adjustably fixed to frame plate 10 by slot 39 and stud 38. As the pendulum passes through its zero position the prongs 23, 24 alternatively contact with, and then fall away from, parts 18, 21 so that contact 18, 23 is made once for each complete swing of the pendulum. The armature 33 of the magnet 20 is on the pendulum and in the left hand position of the pendulum forms, with the casing 32, a complete casing for the magnet which is closed at both ends. As the pendulum oscillates, two pins 46 thereon oscillate an arm 45 rigid with a notched disc 44, whereby the notch allows the upward movement of a roller 58 on a bellcrank 51, 50 which is pivoted at 52 and carries a pawl 54 which advances the seconds wheel 56. In a modification the armature is mounted on a member pivoted coaxially with the pendulum and rigidly linked thereto. This member is U-shaped and the contact fork is pivoted between the limbs of the U. A snap spring mounted on the frame plate coacts with a pin on the fork to hold the contact closed as long as possible.
