Vacuum tubes.-In thermionic valves particularly for transmission, a single filament a supported in loop form by a central stem b is provided with metal leads in two parts c, c<1> connected together by a spring connection e and connected respectively to the filament ends and the lead-in wires g, a mica or other insulating strip h with apertures through which the stem b and the parts c of the leads above the springs e are passed, forming a bridge to hold the filament ends and leads c against lateral displacement whilst permitting their longitudinal movement. The spring e may comprise a flat strip bent to form a double loop. The stem b may be loosely fitted at its lower end in a glass sleeve or socket i and may be of wire with the upper end grooved to receive the filament. The parts c, c<1> are of flattened nickel and each part c is twisted at its centre d.
