Abstract

318,933. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Relyea, W. I.). Sept. 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes. - A filament 5, Figs. 2 and 3, for a valve or incandescent lamp is maintained in tension by two supports 12 on either side of the filament, a member 14, preferably U - shaped, spanning the supports, and springs 13 held under compression and arranged between the member 14 and the supports, and preferably mounted in recesses in the supports. A twisted, stranded member 15 of molybdenum is wound tightly around the member 14, and ends in a loop 25 supporting the loop of the filament. A helix 16, of tungsten or other refractory metal, wound around the filament or the loop 25, prevents. welding action at the place of contact between the filament and loop. The ends of the filament are secured to leads 4 mounted in a stem 2, on which is fitted a slotted cylindrical cap having a perforated plate 9 carrying the supports 12. A sheet of copper mesh may be interposed between the stem and the cap, and the cap is secured around the stem by clamps 17. A quartz spacer 7 with staggered wires may be mounted between the leads 4. A cylindrical anode, not shown, is carried by rods 22, Fig. 4, fixed to a slotted member 19 which is closed by a perforated plate 20. The anode lead 23 passes through and is secured to the plate.
