Abstract

235,846. Tavannes Watch Co., Soc. Anon. June 21, 1924, [Convention date]. Balances; escapements.-Clockwork fuzes are made with a balance spring 21 in the form of a coil disposed transversely over a bearing 19 which supports the coil against inertia at the moment of discharge, in combination with a dead beat escapement, the axis 7 of the balance 8 and the axis 2 of the escapement wheel 5 being at right-angles to each other, and each looking or rest being determined by the contact of the point of a tooth of the escapement wheel upon a shoulder 6 secured to the spindle of the balance. As shown, the escapement 5 is a double wheel of the " Garnier " type, and the shoulder 6 is slightly inclined at 9 to facilitate the disengagement of the teeth. The spindle 2 is arranged transversely, and the spindle 7 in the axis of the fuze; but this arrangement may be reversed. One end of the coil spring 21 is connected to the balance by a transverse shaft 18 and bevel pinions 17, 15 maintained in mesh against the action of centrifugal force by an adjustable screw 28. The other end of the spring is attached to a split-ring 22 adjustable on a fixed cylindrical shoulder 23, and secured in adjusted position by a screw 25. Another splitring 26 is frictionally mounted on the split-ring. 22, and carries a stud 27 fitting within the first convolution of the spring coil to regulate the same. The balance comprises weights 13 at the end of flexible arms 12, which are supported against inertia at the moment of discharge by a fixed plate 14.
