Flexible chain wheels.-In apparatus for distributing sewage over rectangular filter or bacteria beds of the kind described in Specification 6803/08, [Class 69, Hydraulic machinery &c.], the sprocket wheels are provided with friction means to prevent shock on reversal of the direction of travel. The outer toothed ring a is carried between two coned clamping plates a<1>, a<3> provided on their inner faces with interacting projecions a<6>, a'. The plate a<2> has a long boss a<8> and is keyed to the driven shaft, the other plate a<3> adjustably held to the plate a<2> by means of bolts and nuts a<4> provided with spring washers.
