Abstract

261,852. Hartley, J. W. Aug. 29, 1925. Rotary apparatus.-Rotary sewage distributers for filter and bacteria beds are formed with oppositely-arranged radial pipes B, C, Fig. 1, connected to a central supply column A, the arm C being provided with a water-wheel distributer E driving a wheel M engaging a circular track, the other arm being provided with nozzles and spreader plates and a balance weight B<2> so that only sufficient weight bears on the track to ensure efficient driving. The water wheel supplies the bed with sewage from the point B<4> to the circumference while the rest of the bed is supplied by the pipe B. The pipes are supported by stays passing over rollers on the top of the central column. Sewage is supplied to the pipes B, C through openings A<4>, Fig. 3, in the column A<1>, a weir A<3> being provided at the entrance of the pipe B to prevent liquid passing thereto until the water wheel has started. A flexible leather sleeve A<5> connects the edge of the sleeve A<2> to flanged sleeve A<6> which closely fits the column and is provided with water packing grooves. The water-wheel is preferably of the form shown in Specification 262,680. Specifications 20060/14 and 205,656 also are referred to.
