Abstract

286,855. Elsmore, E. C., Holford, H. J., and Bishop, A. Feb. 10, 1927. Strainer separators. - Apparatus for treating various kinds of sludges has a rotor a with a horizontal axis and a number of ports e covered with gauze for the discharge of liquid; a sliding scraper is provided for the removal of the solids. The exterior surface of the rotor has flanges g which engage rollers h in supports i, and this arrangement permits the operation of the rotor by the motor d through gearing c. Material is supplied through a stationary tube p and the strained liquid, thrown off centrifugally, passes away through the pipe r. The solids accumulate in the rotor and the gauze-covered ports are cleared of solids by air under pressure supplied through the pipe u and expanded nozzles s. Discharge of the solids is effected by a sliding scraper which consists of a flexible annulus k mounted on a rigid annulus l and operated by hand or power.
