Abstract
521,876. Gravity-separation apparatus. MILLS & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., J., and BOLTON, J. F. Nov. 30, 1938. No. 34842. [Class (iii)] Sludge is collected on the base of a circular settling tank a for sewage by scrapers d; attached to hinged pipes f pendent from a bridge b and up which the sludge is drawn by air, lift arrangements or pumps into boxes h, each connected to a main sludge pipe i. The pipe i passes the sludge to an open-topped vessel k in a deflector box l, which distributes the sludge in a central sludge-concentrating tank j from which supernatant liquid passes back through apertures j into the tank a. The bridge b travels on wheels b<SP>1</SP>,b<SP>2</SP>on inner and outer tracks, the wheels b<SP>2</SP> being driven from a motor b<SP>4</SP>.Air for the air lifts is supplied from a rotary, compressor g, driven by a motor g', through rein g<SP>2</SP> and branches g<SP>5</SP>to each pipe f. In aid or in lieu of the air lifts some or all of the pipes f may be provided with pumps r, driven by motors r<SP>1</SP>,as shown in Fig. 5. The pipes f with the attached scrapers can be raised by flexible ties c' leading to winches c on the bridge. The tank j has sludge scrapers m<SP>2</SP> carried on a vertical shaft m which may be fixed to rotate with the bridge or can be driven independently. The sewage may be supplied to the tank a through a pipe p, an inclined annular channel q, apertures q<SP>1</SP>and a distributing grille q<SP>2</SP>.Specification 489,452 is referred to.
