Abstract

1,023,311. Bar screens for sewers. LONGWOOD ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. July 9, 1962 [April 8, 1961], No. 12733/61. Heading BID. [Also in Division El] In means for dealing with storm-water overflows in sewers and like drainage systems comprising a bay 1 having a trough 2, with walls of unequal heights, into which a stormwater outlet sewer 5A opens, and a foul-sewer outlet 5 from the bay 1 with which a trash-pit 7 communicates, a filter screen 8 covers the trough mouth with which a rotary rake or rakes 11 coact(s) whereby, normally, water passes to the bay I from an inlet and then to the foul-sewer 5 but during storm-water conditions water and floating trash flow over. the lower wall, the latter escaping through the screen 8 to the sewer 5A, the former being swept from the screen 8 over the higher wall into the trash pit 7 and away to the foul-sewer 5. The rake or rakes 11 rotate in the same direction as the flow of water. The trough 2 has wash-water channels 6 in the higher walls. The rake(s) 11 are supported on arms 10 secured to (a) shaft(s) 9 driven, for example, by an electromotor, and are freed from trash by means 11. There may be a cover over the bay 1.
