Abstract

In order to obtain a resin capable of being hardened by a comparatively short heating, the hardening of the complex ester resins, produced by interaction of a polyhydric alcohol such as glycerine and a polybasic acid such as phthalic acid or its anhydride, is interrupted when the resin is just short of the intermediate stage of condensation, the interruption being obtained by heating the fusible resin dispersed in a solvent of high boiling point so as to effect a partial "curing." Suitable solvents are diethyl phthalate and benzyl benzoate. The solution may be heated to 210-290 DEG C., any evaporated solvent being recovered by condensation, and after a sufficient time the resin is precipitated, for example by pouring the solution in diethyl phthalate into benzene, and dried. The resulting resin is susceptible of quick hardening and is non-corrosive. Specification 3271/13 is referred to.
