Ordnance breech mechanism.- A gun having the barrel hinged to a breech-block or body, which itself is hinged to a mount has the barrel arranged so that its axis does not pass through the axis of rotation of the block or body relatively to the mount, the pressure of the explosion producing a turning moment which tends to close the breech. As shown, a barred 1 is hinged by a pin 6 to a breech block 2 which is hinged by a pin 3 to a bracket 4 on a base plate 6. The front of the barrel is supported by a pivoted link 8. The axis of the barrel is displaced from the axis of the pin 3 by a distance r so that, on firing, a turning moment is produced which tends to keep the breech closed.
