Abstract

234,604. Makowski, J. F., and California Cedar Products Co. April 28, 1924. Lathing.-Laths consisting of a plaster base 1 faced with paper 2, 3 are provided with a keying layer 4 of gravel or like material which is applied to an insoluble coating 5 to protect the paper against moisture from the plaster 6. The coating 5 may consist of 1 part magnesite, 1¢ parts magnesium chloride solution 19‹ BÚ., and 2 parts diatomaceous earth; or casein, lime, and diatomaceous earth: or asphalt emulsified with silicate of soda and diatomaceous earth; or silicate of soda alone may be used. The paper becomes fireproof by absorbing some of the coating. The gravel layer may be coated with any desired water or fireproof material. Alternatively, the gravel may be omitted and the coating 5 be applied thickly and then roughened.
