Abstract

Concrete blocks, bricks, tiles or pipes made from cement, aggregate and lime are water-proofed by impregnation with a non-aqueous alcoholic soft soap solution so that an insoluble metallic coat is produced in the article by reaction with the lime. Lime-cement mortar used with the article for jointing or surface application may be similarly treated. In an example, blocks made from 9 parts by weight of aggregates to 1 part of lime-cement are soaked to a depth of half an inch in a solution of soft soap in methylated spirit.
