Abstract

233,392. Hawken, F. W., and Pimm, A. W. Jan. 12, 1924. Enveloppes.-The closure flaps of envelopes are temporarily closed by a paper tongue A, Fig. 1<A>, provided with side lugs or shoulders at its upper end and with gum on its lower edge, which is assembled without folding or creasing by inserting the gummed-end through two slits B, in the flap parallel to the fold, and is finally secured upon the back of the envelope. Instead of slitting the flap, a separate paper strip C, Fig. 2A, provided with two parallel slits between its gummed edges may be attached across the flap to receive the tongue, or the slits may be dispensed with, the tongue being passed beneath the attached strip and its end secured on the envelope back. The envelope can be opened for inspection by bending the lugs on the tongue and passing the free end of the tongue through the slits or their equivalent.
