Description

H. CHAMBON.
COMBINED LETTER AND COVER AND THE LIKE. APPLICATION immun/1.1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRI CHAMBON, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
COMBINED LETTER AND COVER AND THE LIKE.
Application led July 1, 1920.
Specication of Letters Patent.
(GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE ACT 0F MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. L., 1313.)
To all fai/wm t may conce/rn: y
Be it known that I, HENRI CHAMBON, a citizen of the French Republic, and resident of Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Letters and Covers and the like, (for which I have filed applications in France, March 7 and 26, April 11, 1919, and March 9, 1920; in Belgium, May 2, July 15, and November 10, 1919; in Germany December 18, 1919, and in Great Britain, March 24, 1919, Patent No. 138752,) of which the following is a specification.
The object of my present invention is to provide a new and improved method of folding a sheet of paper having a gumined margin and suitable perforations, whereby I am enabled to produce- 1. Perfectly closed letters forming also covers.
2. Letter-cards constructed according to the saine principle.
3. Covers for post-cards, that are intended to contain one or more post-cards and yet to serve as letters.
4. Wrappers or bags serving to cont-ain letters or samples.
5. Any desired wrapper the inside of which may be utilized as a letter or for advertisements, whilst the outer' surface thereof is intended to bear the address.
In theV accompanying drawings I have illustrated various examples of embodiments of my invention and in these drawings:
Figs. 1, 2 and 3 show a sheet of paper which after being folded and closed shows the address written inside whereby the usual transparent or cutaway covers may be dispensed with and the inviolability of the communications perfectly insured.
Fig. 4 shows a paper bag or the like adapted to be inviolably closed by means of suitably arranged gunimed strips.
Fig. 5 shows a letter card having a perforated strip and a gummed strip along one edge thereof. Y Y
Figr 6 is a view of the letter cardvshown in Fig. 5 in folded position showing the gummed and perforated strips in interlocking relation with the end flaps.
Figs. 1, 2 and 3 show a sheet of paper intended to receive communications in the sections 16, 17, 18, the section 19 serving for the address.
The letter being written, the sections 18,
19 will be folded together upon the section 17, whereupon the section 19 is folded back and the iiaps 9 are folded upon the same. Then the section 16 will be folded upon 17 .and the "ummed margin 2 raised to facilitate the insertion of the Haps 9 into the slits of the flap 2, whereupon the latter' is moistened and pressed upon the folded letter. (Fig. In this way the flap 2 secures fiaps 9 and the section 19 by means of the slits 20, whereby the inviolability of the communication will be insured. Furthermore the stamp may be fixed as shown.
In order to increase the useful surface for writing the sections 18 and 19 may be made of the same length as the section 17, the sheet being folded in the manner above described and a portion, say one-half of the section 19 serving for the address.
The modification shown in Fig. 4 shows the application of the structure to a paper bag, one {iap 9 being folded in against the overlapping sides and inserted in the slit 20, the gummed portion being moistened to seal the overlapping sides and the abovementioned flap which has been folded; the other end being open and the Iiaps thereon left unfolded.
The letter-card shown in Figs. 5 and 6 has strip 25 may be associated with the various other types of letter-cards described.
I-Iaving now fully described my said invention` what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A letter sheet comprising a blank to be folded along predetermined lines, a margin of the blank being arranged to form a gummed sealing strip, the end portions of which are severed from the blank. fiaps formed on the end of the portion of thc blank `forming the front when folded, adapted to be folded over the ends and against t-he back in folded position and fitting under the severed end portions of the sealing strip for sealing cooperation therewith.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
HENRI CHAMBON.
Witnesses:
CLEMENT S. EDWARDS, EMrLE BERTRAND.
