[Class 18.] In a folding box or carton of the type comprising a back 1, Fig. 1, sides 3, end walls 5, 5<1>, and front walls 7 out of which flaps 9, 9<1> are bent up and adapted to be superposed when the box is closed to form a handle and a fastening means for the box, a slot or slots is or are formed along the folding edge of the one flap through which the other flap can be pulled. The flaps forming the handles may be similar, Fig. 1, and the walls 7 may be secured by wire staples to flaps 6 on the end walls 5, 5<1>, the walls 5<1> being secured by wire staples to flaps 4 on the back 1. The ends of the blank may be folded over to form walls 7 of double thickness, Fig. 3, with the end strips 17 of the material bent to lie against the walls 3, and the flaps 6 are slipped in between the two layers of the wall 7. In this form the handle portion 9 is passed through the slot 10 formed when the other handle portion is bent up. The box may be made from a single blank or from two, each of which has a back 1. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also modifications in which the slot through which the one handle portion is passed is formed by securing a strip on the underside of the wall carrying the other handle portion, or slots may be formed on either side of the folding line of the one handle portion to take the other and slightly longer handle portion. This subject matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
