Concrete flooring which may have a mosaic or tile facing is formed by levelling the existing foundation a and applying a waterproof paper or fabric c directly thereto or on a levelled bed of sand b, then laying an open framework of bars to divide the area into compartments which are filled with concrete to the top of the bars, or nearly so if the surface is to be faced with mosaic or tiles k. Expanded metal or other reinforcement j is embedded in the concrete. The lower part of the bars may be wood or resilient bent sheet-metal, and the top part is grooved to receive an inset e of lead or other material which will wear at the same rate as the surface. The waterproof sheet c prevents moisture from escaping while the concrete is setting. The material in anv cell mav be renewed without disturbing the remainder.
