Abstract

232,508. H³ckel, C. Oct. 25, 1924. Locomotives and vehicles ascertaining distribution of weight on wheels of.-The load on the wheel of a locomotive, railway or other vehicle is ascertained by means of a pair of levers connected at one end by a load-indicator, and at the other end adapted to engage the wheel rim and its support, at both sides of the point of support. The levers 1, 2, Fig. 1, pivoted together on knife. edged bearings 3 are forked so as to span the point of contact of the wheel and rail as shown in Fig. 3. The forked end 17 of the lower lever rests on the rail. The upper lever which engages the wheel carries wedges 9 adjustable by screws 7. The inclined surfaces of the wedges support knife-edged blocks 11, Fig. 4, and V- blocks 12 which may be adjusted to lie accurately on the circular tread of the wheel. The outer ends of the levers 1, 2 are united by a loadindicator, a lever 14 and a hand-operated screw 13.
