Abstract

232,471. Clapp, R. I. Aug. 5, 1924. Locking nuts. - Relates to nut-locks of the type in which a threaded or roughened locking-pin or roller is carried in a cam shaped recess adjacent the bolt hole of a nut and is jambed between the bolt and the wall of the recess when the nut tends to slack back. According to the invention the nut 4 is provided with a recess or recesses 5 in which a toothed roller or rollers 6 are free to rotate and have a small amount of lateral play. On tightening the nut the rollers are carried freely by the interengagement of teeth thereon with the teeth 3 on the bolt. When the nut tends to slack back the rollers engage ratchet teeth 7 in the recesses 5 and prevent further movement.
