Abstract

232,449. Tydings, J. June 20, 1924. Reversing-gearing.-A paddle-wheel 3 mounted between pontoons 2 drives shafts 8 which are journaled in bearings on reach rods 4 pivoted on supporting bosses 5. Each shaft 8 carries a wheel 12 gearing with a wheel 13, Fig. 3, the elongated hub 19 of which is revolubly mounted on a sleeve 20 which is in turn revolublt on a shaft 14 mounted in the bosses 5. The hub 19 carries oppositely-arranged pawls which engage with ratchet-wheels 16, 21 on the shaft 14 and the sleeve 20 which also carry gear-wheels 17, 22. Shafts 24, 25 carry left-and right-hand gear wheels 18, 23 which mesh with the wheels 17, 22 and carry similarly-set pawls. These pawls engage with ratchets 29 fixed to gear-wheels 30, which are revolubly mounted on the shafts 24, 25 and which mesh with a wheel 26 on a power-shaft 27. Thus whatever the direction of rotation of the shaft 8, the shaft 27 will always be given unidirectional rotation.
