Speed-indicator transmission mechanism.-A speedometer &c. on a motor vehicle is driven from a hollow shaft 15 mounted in the gear-box housing 1 and having a pinion 17 meshing with a gear wheel 14 on the main shaft 3. The reduced end of an adjustable screwed-in stud 18 enters the hollow shaft 15 and provides an internal bearing, and an external bearing is provided by a nut 16. A spiral groove 20 may be cut in the reduced end. of the stud 18 to lead oil to the bearings and to the cable connecting the member 15 to the speedomeiter. On removal of the nut 16, the member 15 may be withdrawn from the casing.
