Speed - indicator transmission mechanism; odometers.-A speedometer, odometer, or like instrument is driven through a flexible shaft D from a shaft K mounted in the transmission housing E of the vehicle. The shaft K is mounted at one end in a bearing formed in a boss on the housing E, the end k of the shaft being reduced to enter this bearing and also formed with a recess to take the usual tenon on the flexible shaft. At its other end the shaft is carried by a bearing in an adjustable plug M screwed into the transmission housing and of such diameter that, when it is unscrewed, the shaft K, with a gear-wheel T by which it is driven from a power shaft F positively connected to the driving-wheels of the vehicle, can be withdrawn through the opening. A lock-nut M<1> holds the plug M in its adjusted position.
