Abstract
231,909. Federal Pressed Steel Co., (Assignees of Hansen, F. D., and Tinker, H. W.). April 7, 1924, [Convention date]. Brakes. - Ribs 8 are pressed in the web or bottom of pressed metal brake drums in order that the flange part f may be rendered truly cylindrical and the web be truly flat or if curved be symmetrical. The drum is as usual formed from sheet steel by an initial pressing operation which gives the web a slightly convex form. It is then put into a suitable die and the web subjected to a sharp powerful blow whereby the web may be given a concave form and the ribs 8 are pressed in it. The ribs are preferably tapered so that they are of greater depth at their inner than at their outer ends and they need not be radial. The web may be flat or convex instead of concave.
