Abstract

231,665. Marks, E. C. R., (Goodman Manufacturing Co.). March 31, 1924. Axle structures.-Comprises a locomotive in which the two axles 2, 2a, are geared together and driven by a shaft 17 enclosed in a housing 18 which connects the two axles and is mounted on longitudinal trunnions 24, 27<a> on the axle casing 26 of the axle 2<a>. The shaft 17 is driven through a universally-jointed shaft 19 and gearing 15 by an electric motor 5 carried by the main frame 8. One end of the housing 18 forms the casing for the axle 2 and a rib 27 integral with the housing is extended over the ,axle casing 26 to form the outer trunnion member 27<a>.
